“Paddling the NWTs Mountain & Mackenzie Rivers”

Courtesy: Pat Mahaffey

A team of 5 Bow Waters members paddled down the Mountain River in the NWT last summer: Peter Errmann, Werner Groeschel, Monique Wilkinson, Scott Wilkinson, and Pat Mahaffey.

The Mountain is considered one of the best canoeing trips in Canada, and you may agree when you see our photos: exciting rapids, dramatic canyons, continuous mountain scenery, wonderful hikes, fine campsites, good wildlife viewing, peace & quiet, and a remote wilderness setting.

The Mackenzie is seldom travelled by canoeists, but that didn’t stop Peter & Pat, who used a different approach in dealing with the complicated logistics of transporting group gear up north – come and see how they did it!

Paddle The Mountain

Slide Show - Pat Mahaffey's slide show at the Bow Waters Canoe Clubhouse on Feb. 3 will show just how much fun the Northwest Territories' Mountain River is to paddle -- when it's warm.

Mahaffey and a team of four other Bow Waters club members paddled down the picturesque river last summer. The Mountain is considered one of the best canoe-tripping rivers in Canada, with exciting rapids, canyons, continuous mountain scenery and fine hikes -- all in remote wilderness.

Mahaffey will show how to deal with the complicated logistics of transporting canoe-tripping gear up north.

Doors open at 7 p.m. for socializing, followed a half-hour later by club news and the slide show.

For more details, call 403-235-2922, or visit bowwaters.org.

Pat Mahaffey's "Paddling the Mountain River" was a crowd pleaser that drew more than seventy paddlers out to our clubhouse on Wednesday evening. About one dozen of these were guests who dropped in to check us out and enjoy an armchair canoeing expedition to the North West Territories.

Here's how one club member summed it up: “Yes it was quite a crowd and was very entertaining. The photos were superb and I don't think anyone left early. He [Pat} had lots of great humour sprinkled throughout the presentation. It made me want to go home and start packing my bags for the north.”
